Old customs - carnival

 Every year we still celebrate carnival, which is mostly associated with customs related to driving away winter and welcoming spring. Many people transform into any person or animal during carnival from Carnival Sunday to Carnival Tuesday, or simply put, they disguise themselves.

Carnival time is also a time of madness and a time of masks, when in some places masked people also symbolically take over power in cities. There is no real prescribed ethnology or rules for real carnival events, although at least in Slovenia there are attempts to determine a real carnival mask. However, the rule still applies that you should not drive around masked and you should stick to organized carnival carnivals and processions as much as possible.

Some people bet on kurent or korent, as on a real carnival mask, while others on witches and fairies. Some try to comically portray current social and political events as masquerades. Carnival processions have long been established as an optional attraction of masks that go around towns and villages, especially for the youngest.

Of course, during Carnival time, they also tried to regulate the so-called life events. Above all, marital or wedding status was important. So during Carnival time, single adults could also acquire a straw husband or wife.

In addition, Carnival cuisine or the celebration of greasy lips is also a component of Carnival events. Some argue that the meaning of Carnival is actually to give up meat products. This is actually impossible, since pork knuckle actually took root or became established in the cuisine during the Carnival festivities. In addition to pork knuckle, of course, we are all well aware of Carnival donuts and flancates.

Both masks, as well as greasy cuisine, and antics say goodbye on Ash Wednesday, when Carnival is condemned and simply buried and everything returns to boring everyday life, usually including diet cuisine.
