Remote fraud

The world has become small with the introduction of online global services. The Internet has brought people closer together and simplified our lives with a range of services from online banking, online stores and all other services. However, the Internet has also enabled online fraud or remote fraud.

The police classify these online frauds as investment frauds, which last year in 2024 took away 19.5 million euros from savers in Slovenia alone. This information also shows that people are extremely trusting on the Internet and by phone.

Banks are again informing about the possibility of online banking fraud, as online fake bank fraudsters have appeared, requesting data and installation of individual applications, such as crypto exchanges KuCoin, Binance, Revolut, Bitstamp, Mercuryo... . So we will not know again or we will no longer trust official crypto exchanges or we will simply no longer save in cryptocurrencies. These cryptocurrency wallets with similar or identical names can be found in the Google Play Store.

Online fraudsters also use remote access applications such as Anydesk, Supremo, Mobile Assist, Teamviewer... . The Anydesk Remote Desktop version can also be found in the Google Play Store, as can the Supremo, Mobile Assistant, and Teamviewer versions... . All of these listed applications are supposed to be installed according to the instructions of online fraudsters via links or shortcuts sent by email, but incredibly almost all of them can also be found in the so-called Google Play Store and are supposed to allow remote access.

So we can only hope that we can trust the administrators of the Google Play Store that these applications available to us in the Google Play Store were not created by online fraudsters remotely.

It also most likely depends on our common sense and trust in experts not to install an application that is intended for online fraud. We will also probably not decide to turn off our telephone and internet services, including banking, due to the reappearance of telephone and online scammers.

In principle, online banking or investment scammers need official personal and bank details about payment cards, bank accounts and the balance on your bank account for their fraud and, of course, they also promise large money transfers. We must also be aware that nothing falls from the sky, including the promised large sums of money. It is probably best to simply block such callers immediately. It is too late to ring after the hail, and also after our trusting and stupid disclosure of our personal details and personal finances to unknown persons over the phone or on the road. We can hope that the contacts, websites and applications of our banks have not been misused.

In the event that you fall for online investment and banking scammers, you will most likely have to cover all missing funds yourself. Of course, you can report online investment fraud to the police and block your bank account and bank card at your bank, but the security of your finances is on your shoulders, or in other words, your responsibility. It is more than enough for the bank and the police to inform you about such online frauds when a certain group of people has already been harmed, thus preventing further harm to a wider group of people.
